Recent Scholarship Awardees

The Fairfax Library Foundation’s Scholarship Program was established to enhance the capability of the Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) staff to deliver high quality public service. Each year the Foundation awards scholarships to support the continuing education of all FCPL employees who have attained a Masters degree and wish to obtain a post-Masters certification or similar qualification. One (1) or more scholarships are awarded each year, dependent on the availability of well qualified candidates and funds. The award is for an amount up to $2,000, and it is a merit-based scholarship.

Only FCPL employees who have attained a graduate degree are eligible to apply for a scholarship. The scholarship is awarded either for advance funding or reimbursement for tuition and registration fees, books and materials, and other relevant costs for certificate or similar programs. Attendance at such programs must benefit the FCPL in a demonstrable fashion. Additional information can be found in the Instructions and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) with the application form.

Applications may be submitted by July 15 deadline. Only one (1) program occurring within a calendar year (January through December), either on an advance approval or reimbursement basis, will be eligible for a scholarship. The program start date must occur prior to the deadline for a reimbursement application or subsequent to the deadline for an advance approval application and fall within the calendar year. The application must be postmarked or received by the July 15 closing date by the Foundation at the address below.

The scholarship is awarded on a merit basis without regard to race, gender, religion, age, physical disability, or sexual orientation. The Foundation considers the merit of each application carefully. Factors evaluated will include:

  • Value of the scholarship program to the organization, as well as the individual, and
  • The employee’s expected future service in FCPL.

Each applicant will be notified of the Foundation’s decision within six (6) to eight (8) weeks of the closing date. Foundation decisions are final and not subject to appeal. Refer to question #s 10 and 11 of the Instructions and FAQs (see the application form) for information on the disbursement of funds.
