2017 Library Jubilee
The Library Jubilee is our largest fundraising event each year, with 100% of proceeds invested into Fairfax County Public Library.
Have you ever noticed that many of the best movies are adapted from books? Hollywood loves the library as much as we do! This year our Jubilee celebrates the stories we find in our libraries and on the big screen with our theme, The Library Goes Hollywood. This premier event brings together the elite in Fairfax County: in attendance will be Foundation and Library leadership and staff, elected officials, published authors, business leaders, and library supporters. We hope you will join us as one of our special guests!
Funds raised at the Jubilee will be used to help the library expand its reach to children and adults in every corner of our community. By participating in the Jubilee, not only will you play a direct role in enhancing library programs and services, but you will gain exposure as one that values the library and its role in an educated, civilized society.
Each year at the Jubilee, attendees celebrate this work of the Library and Foundation while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, musical entertainment and a silent auction. Shirley’s Catering and Peterson’s Ice Cream will be back this year with their delicious treats, savory and sweet. A jazz trio from Mason Music Productions will provide live music in the beautiful new Pohick Regional Library, while guests bid on auction items including winery visits, hotel packages, and passes to Disney World. There are some new things in store for this glamorous Jubilee, like a photo booth and VIP Hollywood guest, Marilyn Monroe!

The 2016 Library Jubilee
Fairfax Library Foundation hopes you will save October 15 for the 2016 Library Jubilee: A Dolley Madison Squeeze, to be hosted at Dolley Madison Library in McLean from 5:30-8:00pm. For this year’s event, we want to honor the namesake of this library branch – when her husband was President, Dolley Madison hosted weekly parties in the White House which earned the name “Squeezes” because so many people attended, they had to squeeze in. These parties brought together all different members of society, including local residents and politicians from both sides. Individuals who wouldn’t normally meet found themselves interacting at Dolley’s White House parties, over unique food and beverages like Dolley’s famous pink peppermint ice cream.
The Library Jubilee is in the same spirit: bringing together different members of our community to celebrate and support the library. In fact, libraries serve this purpose for us every day – a place where people from all walks can meet and engage in meaningful discourse. This celebration is for all of us: in attendance will be Foundation and Library staff and leadership, elected officials, published authors, business leaders, and library supporters. We hope to see you there!
One of the special guests this year will be New York Times Bestselling author Linda Castillo. She writes mysteries and thrillers, including the popular Kate Burkholder series – crime thrillers set in Amish country. Castillo has published more than two dozen works, and has received industry honors including the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence, the Holt Medallion, and a nomination for the Rita. Her bestseller SWORN TO SILENCE was adapted into a Lifetime Original Movie starring Neve Campbell.
The purpose of the Library Jubilee is to raise money for Fairfax County Public Library programs like Changing Lives Through Literature, giving first time juvenile offenders an alternative to formal court action, and Ready to Read Early Literacy Outreach, bringing interactive reading experiences to preschool students. Last year we raised $197,000 for library programs – read more here. Each year at the Jubilee attendees celebrate this work of the Library and Foundation while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, musical entertainment, and a silent auction. This year a planning committee is already at working refining details, to make the event more exciting than ever. More details will follow!
The Library Jubilee is made possible by the generosity of many sponsors. We are launching an updated year-long sponsorship program, with new opportunities for exposure in the community – including complimentary invitations and acknowledgement at the Jubilee. Individual guests can support the library through single tickets for $75 per person. In addition to the programs mentioned above, support of this event provides funding for Scholarships, the Library’s Summer Reading Challenge, Presentations, and Materials, such as books and eBooks.
We hope you will “Save the Date” for the 2016 Library Jubilee: A Dolley Madison Squeeze and help Fairfax County Public Library expand its reach to children and adults in every corner of our community.
