Hollywood Jubilee Wrap-Up

On October 21, 2017 Fairfax Library Foundation hosted the 9th annual Library Jubilee to raise funds for Fairfax County Public Library. 240 guests attended the Hollywood Jubilee at the newly renovated Pohick Regional Library—record-breaking attendance. The event raised $129,000 for library programs, exceeding the Foundation’s fundraising goal for the evening.

This year’s Hollywood theme celebrated the stories we find in our libraries and on the big screen. There were extra special glamorous touches at the event, including spectacular décor from Shirley’s Catering, a Literary Walk of Fame, photo booth, and VIP guest Marilyn Monroe. In attendance were Foundation and Library leadership and staff, elected officials, published authors, business leaders, and library supporters.

The money raised at the Jubilee goes to the programs of Fairfax County Public Library that the Foundation supports, like Changing Lives Through Literature, giving first time juvenile offenders an alternative to formal court action, and Ready to Read Early Literacy Outreach, bringing interactive reading experiences to preschool students. The Foundation’s newest funding area is the New American Initiative, raising funds for English Language Learning materials.

Each year at the Jubilee, attendees celebrate this work of the Library and Foundation while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, musical entertainment and a silent auction. Shirley’s Catering and Peterson’s Ice Cream served delicious treats. A jazz trio from Mason Music Productions provided live music, while guests bid on auction items including winery visits, hotel packages, and passes to Disney World. The silent auction alone raised more than $11,000—another record for the Foundation.

The Library Jubilee is made possible by the generosity of many sponsors. We are grateful for the support of our Signature Sponsors, the Friends of the Burke Centre Library and the Friends of Pohick Regional Library. A full list of sponsors recognized is available here.

We are grateful for the attendees, volunteers and sponsors who made the 2017 Library Jubilee: The Library Goes Hollywood the best Jubilee yet, helping Fairfax County Public Library expand its reach to children and adults in every corner of our community!
