Fairfax Library Foundation Welcomes 7 New Members to the Board of Directors
Fairfax Library Foundation is thrilled to welcome seven new members to its Board of Directors for the start of its 2018 fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2017. Fairfax Library Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works to enhance Fairfax County Public Library. While the Foundation works closely with library administration and the Library Board of Trustees, the Foundation is governed by its own Board of Directors.
Earlier this spring, we put out a call to the community that we would like to expand our Board, with the goal of diversifying and strengthening our ties to the community. The response was overwhelming, and after a careful review process, our existing Board of Directors voted to bring on seven new Directors and four new committee members.
“We are quite fortunate to have several new as well as returning Board Directors who represent a variety neighborhoods, organizations, and businesses, and who are committed to helping the Foundation leverage the library’s value within the community,” said Susan Harman, Executive Director of Fairfax Library Foundation. “They will help us have a positive impact on the lives of our residents by enhancing support for Fairfax County Public Library’s programs and services. These directors serve as volunteer leaders because they believe in our mission and understand that a well-funded library is vital to Fairfax County’s interests.”
The new Board Directors are Xande Anderer, Citizen X Design; Ravi Bansal, TechStratium; Mike Cullen, Baker Tilly; Mary Jo Patterson, Technology Student Association, (consultant); Mike Reyes, Merrill Lynch; Sara Wachspress, Internal Revenue Service (retired); and Jayne Young, Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna (retired). The new committee members are Catalina Racu, EagleBank; Doug Schoemer, Flint Hill School; Charlotte Sell, George Mason Friends; and Dr. Sarah Sweetman, Fairfax County Public Schools.
These accomplished individuals join our returning Directors: Board Chair Brian Engler, Friends of the Burke Centre Library; Vice Chair Richard W. Peterson, Friends of the Richard Byrd Library; Treasurer Kathy Flaherty, Matthews, Carter and Boyce; Secretary Tejas Patel, Boy Scouts of America; Brownell Combs, Deloitte & Touche; Matthew Evans, Access National Bank; Charles Fegan, Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (retired); Ilyse Gart, Friends of the Burke Centre Library; Duwain Ketch, Friends of Burke Centre and Kings Park; Frances E. The Foundation is grateful to have a Board of nineteen dedicated individuals. Please join us in welcoming our new Board Directors, and thanking all who give their time and talents to help enhance our library system!
