Your Holiday Giving and the Library

new-year2

Happy Holidays!

Dear Library Friends,

This is Abigail Fine, Director of Development for Fairfax Library Foundation. On behalf of all of us at the Foundation, Happy Holidays! I want to briefly share with you my personal experience serving Fairfax County Public Library this past year, and we hope you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to support the library.

When I accepted this position last fall, I already understood the importance of the library. But after working with library staff and engaging in library programs this year, my appreciation for the library has grown ten-fold. I visited all 23 of the Fairfax County Public Library branches and met with Branch Managers. I attended Changing Lives Through Literature graduation ceremonies, an Early Literacy conference, author events, Friends of the Library book sales, and dozens of meetings about the library.

What I learned about our library

  • Fairfax County and its individual communities are very diverse, and the library aims to serve everyone, regardless of income, age, birthplace or education;
  • The amount of work our library staff takes on is flat-out impressive. They manage library branches to serve our diverse county, while planning a boatload of quality programs to enrich our community;
  • This county is passionate about Early Literacy, and what could be more important? The library can’t keep up with the demand for our Ready to Read program or the new 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative;
  • Our community cares about library, and our library leadership is serious about continuing positive growth of the library.

We need your help this holiday season

We need your help to enhance the library and strengthen our community. The library staff seeks continuing education opportunities, and scholarships funded by the Foundation make that possible. Your neighbors sign up children to read 1,000 Books, which relies on financial support from the Foundation. We all care about improving the lives of our at-risk youth, enriching our community with educational experiences, and making sure we have a top-notch collection of library materials available to everyone—all areas where the Foundation contributes funding.

We hope that you will consider Fairfax Library Foundation while planning your holiday giving. Your gift matters—and not just to me, the library’s new biggest fan! Your gift will have a major impact on Fairfax Library Foundation’s ability to enhance the programs and services of Fairfax County Public Library.

You can make a donation online here or send a check payable to Fairfax Library Foundation to 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 329, Fairfax, VA 22035.

With deepest gratitude,

Abigail Fine
